THEATRAL creates and supports an annual programme of Russian and English dramatic art, from theatre to film, exhibitions to masterclasses, to promote Anglo-Russian cultural exchange and cast a spotlight on Russian language theatre.
We build and facilitate rewarding partnerships between Russian and British theatres, production companies and artists by bringing the very best of Russian language theatre to London’s West End, and by supporting and promoting English language theatrical and film projects with a Russian theme.
THEATRAL was founded by a collective of experienced Russian and European theatrical practitioners who first teamed up to work on the 2017 Sovremennik Theatre Season at the Piccadilly Theatre. This season of three plays, Three Comrades, Two for the Seesaw and Three Sisters, was watched by over 11,000 audience members. Alongside these productions THEATRAL presented the exhibition ‘Sovremennik / Contemporary’ at Pushkin House, together with a series of talks, charitable events and an education programme. Most recently, the THEATRAL team brought the world renowned Maly Drama Theatre of St Petersburg to the Theatre Royal Haymarket, with their productions of Life and Fate and Uncle Vanya.
