CONTEXT FESTIVAL

SADLER’S WELLS THEATRE

Having taken Moscow and Saint Petersburg by storm Diana Vishneva’s CONTEXT Festival started its international tour and came to London in spring 2019.

The audience had a unique and extremely rare opportunity to see Diana Vishneva perform on a London stage.

One of the greatest ballet dancers of our time, Diana is the founder and art director of the CONTEXT festival, prima ballerina at the Mariinsky Theatre, guest soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre and ex-principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre.

Having retired from American Ballet Theatre in 2017, performing Onegin with the company one last time,(accompanied by her long time partner Marcelo Gomes), Vishneva went on to open a ballet studio in her home city, St.Petersburg 'CONTEXT Pro', in September of that year before taking a short break in her hectic diary to give birth to her son. Her return to London marked the very first time her celebrated CONTEXT Festival was performed in the UK.

The CONTEXT Festival programme included:

VERTIGO

Together with her regular partner and friend Marcelo Gomes, one of top male dancers in the world, Russian prima Diana Vishneva will present Vertigo by Mauro Bigonzetti.

NUREYEV

Excerpts from Kirill Serebrennikov’s ballet Nureyev that premiered on the main stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in December 2017. A story of the prodigious dancer, who fled USSR for the West, has been adapted by director Kirill Serebrennikov, a daring force of Russian avant-garde theatre.
